Abstracted Acacia – designed for the
Gondwana section of the 2008 Fashion
Fantasia Awards, was made by ACU
National students Jessica Morrison,
Caterina Mollace and Aleasha Bird.
The creation was inspired by our national
emblem and our colours for international
competition. The outfit features felting,
free machine embroidery, Suffolk puffs
and a variety of fabrication techniques.
The outfit won second prize in the
Gondwana section of the awards.

The following publication provides a history of home economics in schools to 1982 and is available from the Secretary of the HEIA (NSW Division).

The following study provides an example of one of the thirteen founding schools of Home Science in Technical Education in New South Wales and its relationship to the development of Vocational Education and the wider social context.

Case Studies of Bathurst and Lithgow (unpublished)
It is a research study submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the
Bachelor of Education (Technical) University of Technology Sydney and available from UTS.
This study was designed to:
1) record the initial years of the School of Home Science in Sydney (1880-1914)
2) record the establishment of the School at Bathurst (1891- 1988) and Lithgow (1901-1988)
Mission
The mission of the Home Economics profession in Australia is to educate, inform, and to act as an advocate to government, industry and the community for families and households, so that individuals can make informed choices in order to enhance their everyday living.
