Essentially …..
Essentially—the word conjures up many images. But for HEIA(Q) in 2010, it is what will essentially make a difference to home economics in Queensland—whether to our professional status, our members, or our students of home economics.

Invitation to attend
On behalf of the Home Economics Institute of Australia (Qld), I invite you to attend the 2010 conference of the Home Economics Institute of Australia (Qld), being held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Queensland, on 7 August 2010.
‘Essentially digital’ will look at how the digital world is impacting positively and negatively on major home economics interest areas—food, textiles, personal relationships and teachers’ professional practice. For example, it will look at the impacts of digital technologies for relationships of parents and teachers with young people—and relationships among those young people. It will also consider the effectiveness of a linear curriculum for the current generation, demonstrate a range of technologies and practices with which students are consistently engaging, explore how these technologies give us an insight into the nature of student thinking and learning, and consider the educational applications of online technologies and virtual worlds.
The conference will also explore how the digital world is impacting on local and global food production and eating patterns, as well as on digital textile production, and the implications for the home economics profession.
Participants can expect to hear the latest information from speakers who have gained their knowledge from hands-on experience, learn from the initiatives of others and develop important new contacts.
The conference will provide an ideal opportunity for you to network with colleagues in a professional and, hopefully, enjoyable environment. We look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane for Essentially digital—Impacts and implications for Home Economics.
