Name: Sally COWAN Year joined HEIA (SA) Executive: 2008 Current School/Employment: Balaklava High School Position: Home Economics teacher Years as a Home Economist: Since I have been married - over 30 years, at school on a part time basis for about 15 years. In my other school life I teach Mathematics, English and Special Education Previous Schools/Workplaces: What I enjoy about my job: I enjoy watching students achieve and perform to the best of their ability no matter what the subject area. I like to challenge them to excel and enjoy seeing the look of pride on their faces when they complete a garment or article, make a meal or just complete an assignment Other Professional Involvement: HEIA (SA)Executive Member; I facilitate the Goat Club at school and we are involved in the Royal Adelaide Show Led Wether Goat Competition and Angora Goat Junior Judging Competition. I joined the Pedal Prix team in 2008 as the Manager for the Junior Car and organise the training program and catering for the events. I am a member of the Agriculture Committee at school and facilitate the Prom Most Influential Mentor: Christine Parry and Nancy Harrington Most Influential PD: Attending the HEIA Conference in Adelaide in 2003, where I met so many interesting people and listened to inspiring speakers. i have not missed a conference since. Personal Interests: I belong to a diverse range of clubs and groups. I am a Girl Guide leader, an auxilliary member fo CFS, president of Balaklave Community Arts and wardrobe convenor on the executive of Balaklave Eistedfodd committee and convenor of the Finale Concert, representative for BCA on the Balaklave Town Hall Committee, a member of Women for Wheels-Fire and Rescue for Motor Sport, and a Clipsal 500 Senior Official. I have Three grandchildren, two dogs and one cat. I enjoy sewing clothes for myself and other family members and more recentlymachine embroidery and just experimenting with quilting.
