Create a TOTE Bag worshop 7 April

14 participants enjoyed the challenge of creating TOTE bags from plastics. Rhonda McInnes was the presenter and helped ensure that it was a fun and productive evening.

HEIA TAS State Meeting and World Home Economics Day Celebration on 19th March 2011

On Saturday March 19th, twenty home economists participated in a culinary workshop at Ogilvie High School. Author, radio presenter and food enthusiast Sally Wise demonstrated a range of recipes focusing on using seasonal produce. Sally’s latest books were also on sale.

The President, Karen Weitnauer made presentations to the top students in the Pre Tertiary Subject Awards for Food & Nutrition and Housing & Design. Annie Holborow and Victoria Archer, with equal top scores (pictured) received the Food and Nutrition prize whilst Harriett Kossmann was awarded the Housing and Design prize. Harriett was an apology on the day so no photo.

Review of 2004 Food and Nutrition Policy

TAS Nut Policy

Karen Weitnauer and Rosemary Cramp have contributed to the review of the 2004 Tasmanian Nutrition Policy. HEIA-Tas is a member of NEAT ( Tasmania's network of professional teaching associations). NEAT contributes to professional learning opportunities and supported HEIA Tas in 2008 for the WIP conference where Jan Reynolds and Leanne Compton were guest presenters.

Tony Woodward
Tony has held the office of curriculum coordinator for just under 2 years. His role has been to work with teachers and the Department of Education developing a range of resources and curriculum documents for Technology. These resources are available on-line and in a VAL sharepoint on the Tasmanian Department of Education home page. Many home economists contributed to the work samples and curriculum materials within this curriculum document.
