The International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) initiated World Home Economics Day as a worldwide celebration of the Home Economics profession. The IFHE is an International Non Governmental Organisation (INGO) in consultative status with the United Nations (ECOSOC, FAO, UNESCO, UNICEF) and with the Council of Europe. Derived from the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) 2005 - 2014, the theme for Worl Home Economics Day 2008 is Home Economics: Supporting sustainable development and quality of life for all. As part of quality of life, good nutrition is essential and Home Economics professionals are charged with developing health promoting behaviours and helping people choose nutritious foods in a changing market place where we are bombarded with choices. To help you be more informed about the latest nutrition trends and how to educate young people so that they make more informed positive food choices Glenn Cardwell will be presenting at this function. Come along to Glenn Cardwell's - The Swiss messenger, the Gutsy American and the Fruity Italian. What history has taught us about nutrition and how we can use history to teach teenagers to be critical thinkers and better eaters. Glenn is an Accredited Practising Dietician with 28 years in clinical and public health nutrition, including 10 years as consultant dietician to the National Heart Foundation, five years at the Children's Hospital in Sydney and was a major player in establishing the WA Schools Canteen Association in 1994. He has given nutrition presentations throughout Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Spain and Britain, on healthy eating, sports nutrition and weight control. He was the sports nutrition adviser to the West Coast Eagles (AFL) for 14 years and is currently with the Western Force (Super 14 Rugby). Glenn makes frequent TV and radio appearances and has written three books, Diet Addiction, Gold Medal Nutrition (four editions) and the Top Blokes Food Manual. He is an award winning professional speaker and is worth listening to if only because he believes that chocolate and red wine are essential food groups. |
