World Home
Economics is celebrated each year on March 21. However as it falls on
a Saturday we will celebrate earlier on Thursday March 19. This years
guest speaker will be followed by the presentation of the 2009 King and
Amy O'Malley scholarships.
The International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) initiated World
Home Economics Day as a worldwide celebration of the Home Economics profession.
The IFHE is an International Non Governmental Organisation (INGO) in consultative
status with the United Nations (ECOSOC, FAO, UNESCO, UNICEF) and with
the Council of Europe.
Derived from the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD)
2009-2012, the theme for World Home Economics Day 2009 is Home Economics
beyond 100 years: Empowering for the digital world. IFHE is convinced
that Home Economics Education has to play a decisive role for the Education
for Sustainable Development especially in the following fields: Gender
Equity, Health Promotion, Environment, Rural Development
As part of quality of life, good nutrition is essential and Home Economics
