Fashion for the sun

The fashion for the sun resource provides great examples for units of work and learning experiences that enable students to demonstrate student learning outcomes from two key learning areas - Health and Physical Education and Technology.
Fashion for the sun was developed to provide schools with support materials to provide a curriculum that promotes clothing as sun protection.
Approximately 1200 Australians die of skin cancer each year. An estimated one out of every two people who grow up in Australia are likely to develop some form of skin cancer. Children and adolescents particularly, are at great risk of damaging their skin through sun exposure.
A teacher's manual that includes two design challenges for students working at levels 4-6, each comprising:

an outline of what students should know and be able to do to demonstrate the outcomes

possible learning experiences and

sample weekly overview
The purpose of Fashion for the Sun is to support teachers in enabling students to:

understand the dangers of over-exposure to the sun

promote the use of clothing as sun protection

design and make fashion items that are sun protective
