HEIA(V) welcomes all members and their guests to celebrate World Home Economics Day on Friday 21 March, 2025.

This annual and special event aims to promote the work of home economists worldwide and with the current theme for 2025 ‘Tackling Overconsumption’ our work is more important than ever.

Come along and enjoy the evening with other home economists and friends who recognise how the profession of home economics can help make a difference, making it easier for everyone to live sustainably and enjoy a good quality of life.

We also celebrate the occasion with the presentation of awards to the successful 2025 Victorian King and Amy O’Malley Trust scholars by Luke Martynov, chair of the Victorian state assessment panel for the King and Amy O’Malley Trust. Luke will be our Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s event celebrating World Home Economics Day.

Members of the King and Amy O’Malley Trust Advisory Panel, Dr Leanne Compton National HEIA President and Dr Sandra Fordyce-Voorham along with Executive Officer, Michelle Parente, will be in attendance.

We are delighted to host our guest speaker and experienced educator, Gail K Boddy, PhD candidate.

Join Gail as she unveils the findings from her original PhD thesis about professional development for secondary school home economics and food studies teachers. Gail's PhD research explored food and nutrition professional development, from the viewpoints of practising educators, curriculum developers and teachers, offering valuable insights and possibilities for the future of teacher professional learning.

In this exclusive session, Gail will share a detailed synopsis of her studies and discuss how her research can transform food and nutrition professional learning in the field of home economics. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain expert knowledge on fostering development in educational practice!

Be part of the conversation that can shape the future of home economics and food studies professional learning.
