Journal of the Home Economics Institute of Australia

The ‘Journal of the Home Economics Institute of Australia’ (JHEIA) is the national journal of the peak professional association for Home Economics in Australia. It publishes articles by both Australian and international authors. The journal reflects the core focus of the home economics profession:

… to educate, inform, and advocate to government, industry, and the community on behalf of families and households, enabling individuals to make informed choices to enhance their everyday living.

The JHEIA welcomes submissions addressing educational, welfare, business, and industrial issues relevant to home economics. Topics may include social issues; economic, environmental, and technological developments; professional knowledge updates; research findings; and evaluations of programs and teaching materials. Relevant areas include consumerism, curriculum, design, the environment, the family, fashion, food and nutrition (including food security, food citizenship, food sovereignty, and food systems), health, financial literacy, respectful relationships, home economics, human growth and development, management, shelter, technologies, and textiles.

Frequency and distribution

The JHEIA is published twice per year and is distributed digitally to HEIA members as a benefit of membership. It is also available to organisations that subscribe to the journal. Members can request a hard copy by using the contact form.

Information for contributors
