The story of HEIA branding

Logo
The Home Economics Institute of Australia’s (HEIA’s) logo is a contemporary version of the original Home Economics Association of Australia’s (HEAA’s) logo, embodying the profession’s mission and values. The concentric circles represent the family unit within the larger community, while the central flame of the lamp of learning symbolises the pursuit of knowledge. Originally, the HEIA logo featured a straight-line flame, but in 1995, Lyndall Dexter of Lyndall Dexter Concepts redesigned it for the updated membership kit, and this design has remained in use to this day. The mission is reflected in HEIA’s logo.
Colours
HEIA initially adopted blue from the HEAA logo, with the first issue of HEIA News printed in blue ink in late 1993. In October 1994, after consulting with a Queensland University of Technology designer, purple and ochre were chosen as the official colours. While these colours were selected with print in mind, as digital platforms grew, complementary colours were added to maintain a cohesive visual identity across both print and online channels. Purple and ochre remain the core colours of the Institute.
